As we look back on the COVID-19 pandemic years of 2020 and 2021, we couldn’t be more proud of our Blue Cross employees for selflessly giving back. They’ve continued to support our commitment of finding new ways to improve our community, our health care, and our environment.
Some of our more notable efforts: In the aftermath of the death of George Floyd, Blue Cross declared racism a public health crisis and pledged to combat racism and injustice in all its forms. We’re also striving every day to address the health inequities amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic.
We hired a gender services consultant—a first-of-its-kind position for any health plan in Minnesota—and we’re proud to be named one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign.
We engaged 375 Blue Cross volunteers in a COVID-19 mobile vaccine bus initiative with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), Metro Transit and the Metropolitan Council to ensure equitable distribution of vaccines in Minnesota. Between mid-April and the end of August 2021, clinicians administered more than 7,200 vaccines at 170 clinics, hosted by 115 community partners in 42 Minnesota counties.
